a dress for under a $100
Now just waiting for it to arrive
Vents, rants plus anything and everything I encounter in my knitting and life.

Oh Monday!!
As you can see there's a lack of posting lately. Been pretty busy with a little lady's birthday, searching the thrift store for emigrant clothes post 1865, slight remodelling of the condo, test knitting for an awesome knitter, picking a wedding date (4/30/11) and tatting. Yes tatting although not much.
However something really cool has come to my attention. At a lovely lady that has blog of crafty goodness, I discovered her proclamation of Yellow Celebration see here

I'm diggin it. Updating more later! love to all!

I do this every year...
That's right! If you go to my blog instead you will see a new widgety. Yep I'm in the DRT again! Woot!! It's a freaking end of summer tradition for me.
I'm super exicited and I can't wait till it starts!! I've got everything ready too even though I'll probably be the last one to get the box. :-) Still best to be prepared.
Sym knows when I say I'm doing the DRT that I'm going to be sitting and knitting as fast as I can to try to get the rag completed. I shoot for a 1 day turn around. It's funny actually, I'll tell her that the DRT box is coming in and she rolls her eyes and says "Not again." Johnny however, I haven't warned him about the DRT yet. LOL
Ok Happy Friday to ALL!!!

Wow!! News and other stuff
Well as you can see the blog has been changed around a bit. I like it for now.
In other news, I've told those that are closest to me, I've also announced on facebook but now I think I've just gotta share here. This blog has been with me longer than myspace or facebook. I don't have the heart to ever stop blogging. Even if I don't always have the time. But I'm working on that. ;-)
The story....
Last year on the first day of school (or was it the second) Sym didn't get home as quickly as she normally does. Instead I received a phone call from some strange out of town number. I answered and it was Sym. She asked me if her friend Savannah's dad could take her home. I asked her "Who is Savannah and where are you?" She then told me that Savannah had gotten off at Sym's bus stop instead of her own and Sym walked her home. Luckily it was just around the corner from her bus stop at the apartments. I then told her that I was on my way and to be waiting outside. I could have strangled her neck but at the same time, I love the kindness in her heart. I did ground her for a week for trying to get a stranger to take her home.
He actually told her that no she needed to call her mom.
That's when I met him. Johnny, at first site I saw something but dismissed it. NO joke. I thought eh he's older and probably not interested. We met. We chatted a little about the kids. Then I took Sym home and grounded her.
A week later Sym went to play with Van and spent the night with her too while I slung pizzas. I totally didn't see that he was interested in me at all.
Then a few weeks later we moved into our new home. The condo!!! The first weekend after the move, Savannah spent the night with us. I showed him and his older daughter Chy the place. full of boxes and chaos but for the most part liveable. LOL
After Van spent the night, Johnny came by the next day and picked up Sym. Then a couple of days later I get a call from him.
He said "If you want to go out some time let me know I'll take you out"
I told him "Well you are on the phone with me now. Why don't you just name the time and day and we'll go from there."
Seriously ya'll. I had no freakin clue he was even interested until that phone call.
And our first date was Sunday breakfast at Crackerbarrel. lol
Several road trips, moving people, and 10 months later last night at Pablos Lee branch at 5:15pm with a pitcher of margaritas, guacamole and salsa to witness, he asked me if I would marry him. I said yes. He gave me a ring and the Server gave us free shots of tequilla. It couldn't have been more perfect. :-)
Oh and Sym knew he was going to propose to me all along. YEah! She didn't tell me anything!!! I may have to ground her for witholding info from her momma. ;-) Just kidding.

Ok now I have a little time
Sorry it has been a while. Let's just say that I can't seem to get in a moment to blog. I'm weird when it comes to blogging. The words come into my head but to actually typing them here, well I prefer not to have folks watching over me.
So here be the latest news.
Summer 2010 socks - 55% completed. I whole sock has been knit. Just finished the top ribbing of the sock second sock and about 20 rounds into the stockinette. Here's the sock when I was almost done with the first one. Will get a current one later.

Crochet Baby Blanket for Threads of Love- Just started this bad boy. I'm making it with "I Love this Yarn" Pink with a size H hook. I know the yarn suggests I but I'm using H. I like H. It's cool.
100% Completed Projects
Blanket for Threads of love crochet 100% Complete My first Crochet project ever completed.

Leaf-ish Sleep Mask-I've been subscribing to Leethal's Quick Knits Club
This knit was from the June one. I totally loved making it on the way to Orlando. Here's Van sporting it for me. It was quick seriously quick. Think it took an hour or less. Mostly due to my dumb ass gettin lost. Sometimes you just have to frog and start over. It was great though.

Can't wait till the August kit!!!
Ok that's all for now. Ya'll enjoy. I've got a pattern to write up.

Let the mobility begin!!!
hey folks. Due to multiple trips out of town, superduper busy work schedule and several other things keeping me distracted, I've not been able to blog. However that is all about to change. I'm typing this blog from my brand new lap top!! It's a leveno Idea pad. I'm loving it so far! It has the glory of windows 7 (which I'm still gettin used to) and the totally awesome touch screen capability of an ipad. Woot! I'm stupidly happy at this point. All the while I have lots going on the needles this week! Test Mitts, a Sock, and eventually some hats for the girls. I did finally finish my mom's bag. However I STILL haven't taken pics. UGH! All that is about to change though with my new toy's help. Signing off for now. Will most definitely update more later. :-)

As Promised Finally!!
Yes! Pictures!!! Yay!!!
Tatting works that I'm piddling around with
I did this one as a throw together from some other patterns I've piddled with.

This one is a shuttle pattern from The www.theanticraft.com It's called Midnight violets. I was able to convert it somewhat to needle tatting instead of the ol shuttle which I do not know how to work yet. I'm not finished with it yet. I'm still considering this a piddle because I'm trying to figure out how to do the drop in the lower middle point. As you can see these two do not match. But I'm trying. See! I have to do trial and error too. All you needle tatters out there feel free to give a gal some hints/suggestions.

Finally Knitting:
I call it green bag. However the pattern is called "Going Green Shopping Bag". Plus I'm using mostly green yarn so there. :-P

Ya'll enjoy! Feel Free to comment on my piddles. :-)

Disappointing but satisfying weekend
Due to horrible storms, I couldn't take Chy to the baby con in tuscaloosa. :-( Was sad. Also I was going to get a desk on Sunday but that fell through too. :-( However, I did get to drink some good wine, Tat, and hang with a couple of little girls that were grounded. Was nice not having the tv on cartoon network or video games going on for 48 hrs straight. However the constant, can we's can get a bit annoying. ;-) I enjoyed my weekend. I also finally got my hands on the latest three comics of The Unwritten and enjoyed rereading all of them. I'm hooked. I love this comic. What led me to it was the cover artist Yuko Shimizu for whom I absolutely adore!!
Who is a total geek? Yes that is me.
Alright, it is time to do some things that do not involve internet. Will take and hopefully post pics tonight. I know I say that alot but do you know how hard it is to look at a computer 24/7? Yeah.
BTW I leave you with a Pic of Sym and Van Friday Doing the Cha Cha Slide with Deputy Ivy from their school. If you see some cops on top of walmart go say hi and give them a donation for special olympics. :-)

Where does the time go?
I thought it had only been a week since I last blogged but looking on my blogger dashboard, I see that it has almost been a month! Good Lord where does the time go?
As you can guess I've been mostly busy doing non crafty/interesting things like working however I've found little pockets of time for tatting and knitting.
Currently on the needles:
Shopping bag. I started it back in Feb maybe March however I've not completed it yet. Mostly due to tatting distractions. ;-)
My apologies for not posting pics of my completed works or even the ones in progress.
I've not even been going to crafting in the past month. In fact this week was the first time I've actually been! Again, noninteresting things have been keeping my mind busy and body tired.
Last Saturday I had the honor to spend most of the day with my boyfriend's daughter Van and we had a blast making beads and other sculptures out of clay. Fimo/Sculptys rules!!
This Saturday I'm taking my boyfriend's other daugther Chy with her friend Jo to a Baby-Con in Tuscaloosa. I'm excited for this will be my first time to take her off somewhere fun. And I get to dress up. And the Con is free. Woot!!! No worries. I shall take lots of pictures and hopefully actually upload them to the old blog or trusty facebook.
I've got my eye on an awesome knit tank top for me to wear over some spaghetti strapped tanks. It will be groovie that's if I actually get the bag finished. On top of it all, I have 3 girls requesting Bugerloos. Sighs....Eventually right?
I leave you now with a pic of Sym and Van climbing a rock at the Botanical Gardens.

And Friday Fillins!!
1. Where are my ___size 9 bamboo dpn's__?
2. If wishes were horses ___I'd be broke from feeding them all____.
3. I'd like to see __a famous person doing something totally boring and random__.
4. When I was a teen, I thought ____I knew everything, HA boy was I wrong!__.
5. One of my mother's favorite sayings was ____come on chick-a-dees! (Oh I hated it!)_.
6. I'd have a hard time doing without my __add crafting endevours______.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to ___hanging with Sym and J__, tomorrow my plans include __Hitting a Con with Chy & Jo___ and Sunday, I want to __get a new desk and knitting all freaking afternoon___!

Dollar Store Craft Challenge-Placemat
from this:

To this!!
As you may have seen from my last post, the Dollar Store Challenge for this weekend was do something with a dollar store placemat. At first I thought about a purse but then I thought, there's probably others making purses out of placemats so what about an craft apron? Why the hell not!!!
Tutorial Why not?
Supplies
1 Dollar store placemat that has interfacing inside to keep it flat
1 spool of thread
1 sewing needle
1 spool of ribbon
AND Whatever you want to put on it
Steps:
1. Fold the placemat where one end comes just an inch shy from being end to end.
2. Whip stitch the edges of the mat where they meet. On one side I stitched it just shy of the angle edge the other I sewed up that part.

3. Stitch in some lines in the middle for pockets. I only did one line of stitches to make one small pocket and one big pocket. But if you feel like putting in more pockets, just do a straight line of stitches down in any part of the apron.

4. Measure out your ribbon. I placed the apron on me then wrapped the ribbon around my hips to get a measurement. Then cut the ribbon in half. Make sure you have enough to tie the ends of the ribbon together.
5. Sew on the ribbons. I did mine just above where the front edge seams end because I didn't want the apron string to be a bit higher. BUT You can include the ribbon as you are sewing the edges. That's just up to you. Sew one ribbon on each side though so they tie in the back.

6. Decorate the hell out of your apron! I had some tatted pieces just laying around so I hot glue gunned them to the apron. But that's just me. Decorate it however you want to.

That's the end! Use your glue gun wisely! :-) Show me yours when you make one!!!
Btw total cost of this project for me was a $1.00. Yep that's it. I had everything else I needed on hand.

Sometimes you run into things you wouldn't expect

It was a rainy day last Saturday. Sym and I were driving home when what did we see but a rainbow! We drove a wee bit further down the road and I had to stop because I could see both ends of this rainbow!!!

Although I couldn't back up far enough to get both ends, I did capture as much as I possibly could.

What would have made it better is if it were St Patty's day and a leprechaun came running out on 280 and threw his gold at me. Oh well.

Sorry for the delay...KNITTING!!!
Okay, so back in February I agreed to test knit for Sam Roshak's pattern Icing. I didn't finish it due to unforeseen circumstances. 1. I frogged it and had to restart after 8 hrs worth of work, 2. eye infection 3. Eye infection turned into sinus funk 4. I had never blocked anything in my knitting life!
There now ya'll know. My secret is out.
So.... Without further a due, here is my Icing:
Yarn: Classic Two 389 by Kaalund Yarns
Bought at In The Making

How I blocked it: The old fashioned method. Straight Pins and foam board. :-)

I had to hide it from my cats. They wanted to eat the yarn as I knit with it and also the foam board. Since I didn't finish the pattern by the deadline, I bought the pattern. Only fair you know. I love reading Sam's blogs and she is a great designer. This is my first lace like project to have ever actually completed. Don't believe me? Check out Ravelry then.
Ya'll enjoy!!

Friday couldn't have come sooner.....
What a week! I'm still getting over being sick. I have yet to block Icing only because of my crazy cats. I fear they will annihilate that poor scarf that has taken me a month to knit. I'm not about to let that happen. J is hooking me up with some styrofoam to block it on. I figure I'll get it totally blocked at some point on sunday. (J = my awesome man that's almost too good to be true but all in all I know it is meant to be)
In the mean time I'm knitting on a grey hat for J. I know there's that Curse of knitting for a boyfriend but this time, i think it will be worth the risk. He's awesome and not going anywhere. Which is a first in a long time for Sym and Me. It's a mindless hat just a simple 1in rib of 1x1 then stockingette all the way to the top. Blah boring. I'll knit better later. After the Yo's and the SSK's of my first lace accomplishment, I needed boring and easy instant grat. I'm actually in the decrease for crown stage so I'll probably finish it on the way to our weekend destination. Which I intend to take many pics and post about...well maybe not all of it. ;-)
Friday Fill-ins Yeah it's a the source.
1. Why are you making _a hat?____Because it's faster for me to make than socks.___
2. I want you to take __me away from this town!_Even for a little while.__
3. __Fine________ then it will be on my terms.
4. __Just knit the damn sweater_______ and see what happens.
5. I could use a _weekend full of wine, hot tub and relaxin____.
6. _Just do what you have to do_______ and then __freak out about it later__.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to _leaving the Ham hock for a getaway with my man J___, tomorrow my plans include _Wine, exploring, hot tub and relaxation____ and Sunday, I want to _never come home but know I have to get ready for a new week of the everyday actions just to look forward to another weekend of fun_!
Yeah I'm a busy lady. ;-)
