Dollar Store Craft Challenge-Placemat

from this:

To this!!
As you may have seen from my last post, the Dollar Store Challenge for this weekend was do something with a dollar store placemat. At first I thought about a purse but then I thought, there's probably others making purses out of placemats so what about an craft apron? Why the hell not!!!
Tutorial Why not?

Supplies
1 Dollar store placemat that has interfacing inside to keep it flat
1 spool of thread
1 sewing needle
1 spool of ribbon
AND Whatever you want to put on it

Steps:
1. Fold the placemat where one end comes just an inch shy from being end to end.

2. Whip stitch the edges of the mat where they meet. On one side I stitched it just shy of the angle edge the other I sewed up that part.

3. Stitch in some lines in the middle for pockets. I only did one line of stitches to make one small pocket and one big pocket. But if you feel like putting in more pockets, just do a straight line of stitches down in any part of the apron.

4. Measure out your ribbon. I placed the apron on me then wrapped the ribbon around my hips to get a measurement. Then cut the ribbon in half. Make sure you have enough to tie the ends of the ribbon together.

5. Sew on the ribbons. I did mine just above where the front edge seams end because I didn't want the apron string to be a bit higher. BUT You can include the ribbon as you are sewing the edges. That's just up to you. Sew one ribbon on each side though so they tie in the back.

6. Decorate the hell out of your apron! I had some tatted pieces just laying around so I hot glue gunned them to the apron. But that's just me. Decorate it however you want to.

That's the end! Use your glue gun wisely! :-) Show me yours when you make one!!!
Btw total cost of this project for me was a $1.00. Yep that's it. I had everything else I needed on hand.

Sometimes you run into things you wouldn't expect

It was a rainy day last Saturday. Sym and I were driving home when what did we see but a rainbow! We drove a wee bit further down the road and I had to stop because I could see both ends of this rainbow!!!

Although I couldn't back up far enough to get both ends, I did capture as much as I possibly could.

What would have made it better is if it were St Patty's day and a leprechaun came running out on 280 and threw his gold at me. Oh well.

Sorry for the delay...KNITTING!!!

Okay, so back in February I agreed to test knit for Sam Roshak's pattern Icing. I didn't finish it due to unforeseen circumstances. 1. I frogged it and had to restart after 8 hrs worth of work, 2. eye infection 3. Eye infection turned into sinus funk 4. I had never blocked anything in my knitting life!
There now ya'll know. My secret is out.

So.... Without further a due, here is my Icing:
Yarn: Classic Two 389 by Kaalund Yarns
Bought at In The Making

How I blocked it: The old fashioned method. Straight Pins and foam board. :-)

I had to hide it from my cats. They wanted to eat the yarn as I knit with it and also the foam board. Since I didn't finish the pattern by the deadline, I bought the pattern. Only fair you know. I love reading Sam's blogs and she is a great designer. This is my first lace like project to have ever actually completed. Don't believe me? Check out Ravelry then.
Ya'll enjoy!!

Friday couldn't have come sooner.....

"Burning Down the Hut"

What a week! I'm still getting over being sick. I have yet to block Icing only because of my crazy cats. I fear they will annihilate that poor scarf that has taken me a month to knit. I'm not about to let that happen. J is hooking me up with some styrofoam to block it on. I figure I'll get it totally blocked at some point on sunday. (J = my awesome man that's almost too good to be true but all in all I know it is meant to be)

In the mean time I'm knitting on a grey hat for J. I know there's that Curse of knitting for a boyfriend but this time, i think it will be worth the risk. He's awesome and not going anywhere. Which is a first in a long time for Sym and Me. It's a mindless hat just a simple 1in rib of 1x1 then stockingette all the way to the top. Blah boring. I'll knit better later. After the Yo's and the SSK's of my first lace accomplishment, I needed boring and easy instant grat. I'm actually in the decrease for crown stage so I'll probably finish it on the way to our weekend destination. Which I intend to take many pics and post about...well maybe not all of it. ;-)

Friday Fill-ins Yeah it's a the source.
