My Weekend

Hey everyone! Did LesleyD knit much this weekend? Yes!! She knit on Sym's Sweater, Swatched for Cherrie Amour and started a hat only to frog it. Yes lots of knittin.
I took Sym out to a Chinese Restaurant too, Golden City. They are the coolest! They are one of the oldest in Birmingham and they have the groovie decor of a Chinese Restaurant too. IF you are ever in the Ham, go swing by there! Just love their many dragons.

Also I went out solo Saturday night! woo hoo!! For the first time in a bit I went out solo Saturday night. I haven't been anywhere where solo in quite a while. Why you ask?
5 Reasons Not to go to a bar solo..
5. You have to buy your own drinks - Can cost you big time but not always!
4. You have to pay the cover charge - Which can be half your drinkin money!
3. You get lots of funny looks from other women. (aw poor you all alone or look at my man and I'll gouge your eyes out.)
2. Men presume you are there to get laid. - Can't woo them too much with your charm. (Least I choose not to.)
1. NO DD! (Which can really end up saving you money cause you drink less)

I decided not to let any of the above reasons bother me. For the first time in quite a bit, I really didn't want to go out alone Saturday night. Weird. Very Weird. Could it be maturity? Used to, I'd do it! Loved the opportunity to be able to meet whomever and strike up a conversation. But with reason number 2 looming, I didn't want to deal with that. It always looms. Men Love ya but sometimes a lady just wants to go out and NOT get laid.
Well Saturday night I was glad I went out! I paid a cover charge, bought 2 Jack and cokes, 2 beers, 3 hours of good music and nice people for a grand total of $22.
The band was Mellowship. They are a cover band, but really good. They even got me off my bar stool when they sang Shimmer by Fuel and it was all down hill from there. I totally enjoyed their lead singer Lane. He came up to the bar for another shot and some water. He was very nice and we chatted a bit. The Lead Guitarist was playing with them or the first time, William. He is a natural big time!! He was wailing on your familiar songs, (normal cover band lineup STP, Pearl Jam, Fuel, 3 Doors Down) but then they did some Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton to show off what Willie can do. Quite impressive that Mr Willie was. Overall a damn good cover band with very sweet guys willing to talk to a lovely lady who was out for some good live music and a few drinks!
Thanks Guys! Here's their pic. I'm quite impressed with my camera phone. It took a good pic despite the cig smoke and funky bar lighting.

That's about my weekend. I did have a talk with a gentleman about a business proposition that will get me on my way to living a more fulfilling life. Send good strengthening thoughts my way if ya'll don't mind.

Take care! Time for me to get the youngin up. ;-)

I leave you with the bathroom door of Pizza Hut. It has been covered with stickers to create a groovie piece of art. Just love my boys at the hut.

Ah Vacation over That stinks!!!

I had a blast doing the vacation thing last week. Lots of fun!! Most of it wasn't planned too far in advance which I kind of like. ;-) I got out! Yes folks! I left my apartment! LOL

I must confess, not much knitting was accomplished.
Six Flags was great! Sym and I hit the coasters and had a ball! We didn't get to Ride the Batman nor the Superman rides. There's still enough summer to plan that trip hopefully. ;o)
Six Flags Trip
I needed to have had another person or 2 with us to actually take pics of us on the roller coasters. Maybe next trip. Sym and I had a blast! We hit Monster Plantation which you may or may not know is like one of the oldest rides there, i think. Sure does look like it. See even the pic is grainy like those old antique photos. They really need to clean up the animatronics.

Also I got to go out like an adult for once! Wow! I went to see Caddle at a local bar. They are a B-ham band that's pretty good. They are definately a "Live Band". They tell stories on stage, that were quite funny. Here's their website if you are interested. They claim to be country rock alternative. I think they are rock with a twang. ;-)

Also I went to see Blind Melon on Wednesday. They have a new lead singer, Travis Wilson, who sounds just like Shannon Hoon but has his own groove too. Here's a video clip my friend Brian took at the show.
See!! He does sound like Shannon doesn't he?

Thursday was Tubing with the Pizza Hut gang!!!! There's this place called Limestone Park down in the middle of nowhere. You pay the guy $10 bucks, he hands you an tube, and gives you a ride into the middle of his pasture and drops you off by a river. You get on the tube and float down the river. You can buy a cooler tube for $5 to haul your beer, snacks or non alcoholic bevs too. (I prefer beer personally) IT was awesome. I have been waiting 8 years to go! You go over 3 sets of rapids. Lukily Sym and I both got away with minimal scratches. Dude if you have never been you should go. At least once in your life. The last time I went I was pregnant with Sym. Yeah I was a prego dare devil. >:-) he he

Friday & Saturday Was All with the fam!! Sym and I hung out with my relatives from Virginia, grandparents, aunts and uncles and COUSINS!! My God I didn't realize how many cousins I have now. It's getting up to the 20's just from that clan!! I love them all dearly! I brought back memories of being the kid and playing in the same spots my daughter was. It is so weird to be the adult. You know? My grandfather tripped me out! He taught Sym how to drive his Kabota lawn mower. Do you realize that when I was a kid we were instructed never to touch the lawn mower under any circumstance. (we were allowed to play in his boat though. LOL) And here he is teachin Sym how to drive it!! I was jealous, just a little. ;-)

Sunday was knit day. My buddy Mary came over with her angel Alayna. We knitted, the kids played then my butt went to bed. LOL

That about sums up the entire week off. I hope ya'll enjoyed!
Here's Sym drivin the Lawnmower. It is about as big as she is!

Music and Motherhood..

In the past few months I've been loading Symi-D's MP3 player with various songs that I think she might like. Back when she first got it, I put some Maroon 5 on there for her amoungst LOTS of other songs that I thought wouldn't be too out there for her. She LOVED Maroon 5 and played their music over and over and over. Especially the song "She will be loved." I think she took to that one because of the divorce. So...
I haven't told her about this yet, but I'm thinking long and hard about taking Symi-D to see Maroon 5 in Atlanta. She hasn't been to too many concerts and this one would be one she would thoroughly enjoy. I believe. I wish they were going to play in Birmingham though.

I remember my mom and dad taking me to my first concert when I was around her age. It was the Stray Cats. Yeah! I still love that band to this day too. My mom took us to a couple more concerts too, The Bangles and Debbie Gibson (Yep I was a DG fan back as a kid.)
From when I was 16 on, oh the concerts I would hit! OMG To name a few, Drivin and Cryin, Train, Arosmith, Megadeath, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, then I won't even mention all the cool bands I saw back in the 90's at City Stages. Way too many good ones.

I hope that I can give Sym that.

Thanks Mom!!

To this day, I still love live music. I love watching them even if it is local or a renown artist. I just wish there were more kid friendly places to watch live music or that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to see them.

How about all you mom's out there? What concerts have you taken or will take your kids to see?

My first concert of 2008

And guess who it was! None other than The Dresden Dolls!! Natalie my lovely sis and I went to the show. Neither of us have seen them live and if you haven't, I STRONGLY suggest you catch one!!! (Natalie is the sister I taught to knit and she's even started a knitting blog too! Hey sis! Love Ya!!!)
First of all, I'll give ya'll a bit o history. Natalie and I haven't gone out together in quite a long time. Both of us love the Dresden Dolls and both of us REALLY needed a night out!! We deserved to go out on a school night. We both did a bit o makeup, and dressed nice without overdoing it. ;-) So here we are before the show...

Natalie and I had a blast chatting on the way to the show and singing along with Amanda and Brian's first album. We arrived at Work Play all gitty and anxious to see them!!!
We found a kick ass table (since we are over 21 we got to sit at a table that is higher than the heads of the crowd. ;-) ) right next to the stage closest to where Brian plays the drums. We were within feeling the love distance I shall say. We anxiously sat and drank New Castles and listened to the opening band, Two Ton Boa.
The first thing I noticed from our lovely table view about Two Ton Boa was that not only did they kick ass but their bassist was wearing 4 inch heels and getting down on stage. Okay I'm a lady and all but not one that wear heels on a regular basis nor be able to actually get funky in them like this guy!!!
They were awesome! The lead singer, Sherry, has a voice like Grace Slick from Jefferson Starship and she appropriately sang "Alice" by them too!! Natalie got it on video and is in the process of uploading it. I shall share it with ya'll as soon as she gets it. We had such great seats that we even saw Brian sneak out and watch them on stage!! Natalie didn't catch him before he was noticed by the rest of the crowd. So we didn't get to take his pic. :-( After being wowed by Two Ton Boa, our excitement levels upped about 10 levels for the Dresden Dolls!
We were so ready for them!! I was starting worry a little about Nat though. She's tall, and we were REALLY close to the stage and the only objects separating her from Brian V was the table, a rail and me! I could see the drool starting to seep from the corners of her mouth in anticipation to see the hot Brian V. Then they came out!
There he is! OMG!! Here are some more pics that Natalie took of the Show. She took some incredible ones of the Dresden Dolls. Natalie you really need to go into the photography biz lady! I love you!!!
They were incredible!! The musical chemistry they have was mesmerizing. They sang some incredible songs! I will never forget them singing "You've Got to Fight for your Right to Party" or of course the famous "Coin Operated Boy". Incredible!!!
Alright ya'll I've got to go.
Enjoy the pics!! There is a few more on my myspace.
